Field Workshop Field Academy

Since 2017, Educate Tomorrow has been successfully funded as the Family Neighborhood Support Program (FNSP) lead for young people involved in or at risk of involvement in the child welfare system.  Through this program, we endeavor to continue to build an even more robust collaborative and community of support to operate the countywide network that aims to serve:

  • young people who have been in foster care;
  • children (0-15) with their families and youth (16-22) who are experiencing unstable housing, economic hardships, incarceration, food insecurity, health issues or children who are out of school; and,
  • students pursuing alternative education programs.

This partnership is designed to support the child welfare system, and/or those at risk of entering the child welfare system by uniting community partnerships in a coordinated, accessible and individualized manner.  This program serves participants, ages 0-22, on a rolling admissions, tiered approach, model to assist young people in achieving short, medium and long-term goals/needs. Participants have an individualized success plan for their academic/life needs to be coordinated by Educate Tomorrow and our referral partners for emergency support for legal consultation/advocacy, health and wellness, employment, housing, academic support, permanency or other support to increase overall family well-being and growth.

Educate Tomorrow partners with Miami Dade County Public Schools, Citrus Family Care Network (lead agency, child welfare system, Miami-Dade County), Miami Dade College, The One at University City, FIU and our paid/unpaid partners.

Youth Enrichment Programs for 13 to 22 year olds

Program Name: Educate Tomorrow Youth Enrichment and Field Academy

Educate Tomorrow, in partnership with Miami Dade College (MDC), offers services any youth ages 13-17 and to 18-22 year olds that have been involved in the child welfare system, are experiencing homelessness or have a disability. Other eligibility criteria include being currently enrolled MDC, Florida International University, a vocational school; attending an accredited GED programs; or being a middle or high school student. During the academic/school year, the program has 50 slots and 25 slots are available during the summer. The program focuses on academic attainment, life skills development and employment.

Each week during the academic year, students access services at MDC Kendall, North and Wolfson campuses, and near the main FIU campus.  During the summer, participants engage in a college-readiness program or earn opportunities for paid internships and access to mentors to assist them in gainful employment and social-emotional learning and must engage for at least 90 hours. During the full academic year and summer, most college students are also supported through a scholarship program that provides funding for emergency and support purposes. Many of our participants are foster youth or former foster youth, so they earn a monthly stipend (PESS) if they are enrolled in 9 college credits or working for the equivalent amount of time.

There are two cohorts during the summer and 2 during the academic year. During the Academic year, cohort 1 is the college students (18-23) and cohort 2 is middle school and high school students. During the summer, cohort 1 is again the college students/interns and cohort 2 is high school students.

Program Name: Field Workshop
Address: 217 NE 97th St. Miami Shores, FL 33139

Educate Tomorrow and The Children's Trust will pilot one or two field-based workshops, that could result in a network of community-based “out of school” project centers for Miami residents ages 5-18, their families and community groups. Field-based workshops are staffed centers, 1,000-2,000 square-foot “school project” studios, she-shed meets man-cave workshops, creative arts, STEM studios and tinker labs that will be available to get your next “class project” done.

It's a DIYers, parent educators, and student/group project dream center that is packed with materials, (largely upcycled), with creativity tools to inspire, engage and create the next science project, dinosaur diorama, and/or just tinker around and get some creative help on academic projects. Rotating stations, classes, local site visits and field-excursions to see area experts ensure there is always something to pique the imagination, find new passions, enhance personal skills, and ultimately, to get an “A” on your next class project.
