ATTENTION FORMER and CURRENT FOSTER YOUTH: Here is your chance to SHINE!
The Miami Chapter of Florida Youth SHINE (Striving High for Independence and Empowerment) is a youth advocacy organization led by current and former foster youth. Among our goals, we seek to empower youth to advocate for positive changes to improve the foster care system, to educate the community about the needs and perspectives of foster youth, and to assist older youth with transitioning from foster care to independence. We invite you to join us:
¨ Empower yourself and learn how to advocate for your rights
¨ Improve the foster care system and the Road to Independence program
¨ Meet other youth and mentors to support your goals and help you transition to independence
¨ Educate caseworkers, guardians, and attorneys--help them to help you
¨ Inform your senators and representatives of your needs
¨ Let your voice be heard!
Meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of each Month
Caleb Center, 5400 NW 22nd Ave (same location as foster parent association meeting).
Gas cards are available for foster parents and caseworkers who transport youth to the meeting.
For further information, contact Susie Ingram at (786) 797-2317.
